Husband's life imprisonment for killing wife in Noakhali

Noakhali correspondent: Judge Mohammad Faruk of Noakhali Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Faruk gave life imprisonment and fine of one lakh taka to the accused and Farhadul Islam, son of Nurul Huda, a resident of Ghatla village of Kadirpur union under Begumganj upazila, in the presence of the accused, and ordered the acquittal of another four accused.

According to the court sources, on February 7, 2015, Husband Farhadul Islam tortured his wife, Amena Begum (27) and tortured her with mother, sister and husband. The eldest sister of the deceased, Aleya Begum, filed a case against five people, including husband Farhadul Islam, father-in-law Nurulhuda, mother-in-law Dulali Begum, Debar Riyadh and uncle Shaheen Humayun Kabir.

At the end of the investigation, Begumganj Police filed charge sheet in the court against the accused. After the hearing of 17 witnesses and a long hearing, the learned court gave the verdict on Monday.

The eldest sister of the deceased, Aleya Begum, said that Amena Begum, daughter of late Korban Ali of Sharifpur village of same upazila, was married to Farhadul Islam after the death of her exile husband, with the consent of both families. Since marriage, Farhadul Islam often tortured his wife physically and mentally in order to uphold the wealth of the deceased expatriate husband, who came to his wife Amena Begum. In this type of activity, the wife Amena Begum filed a general diary in Begumganj Police Station three months before she was killed by mentioning the incident of torture.

On behalf of the plaintiff, the case was handled, senior lawyer Salahuddin Kamran and Advocate SM Mahfouz for the defendant conducted the case.
